Cuba + Linux = Nova

February 13, 2009 sacx 1 comment

The latest annual Conference on Communication and Technologies in Havana, Cuba announced a big surprise: Cuba it will have their own operating system: Nova. Nova it will be a Linux distribution what will be implemented on all over places from CUBA (from administration, government to school).

Apparently they had 3 big reasons:

1. Rumours about Cia/Fbi/NSA backdoors in Windows operating system.

2. The price

3. Totaly independece from SUA

It seems the latest visit of Richard Stallman in Cuba, at previous Conference on Communication and Technologies, was a successful one :)

Debian looking for sponsors

February 10, 2009 sacx Leave a comment

Debian is starting looking for new sponsors to create another 2 services: snapshots and archives.

The Debian project is hoping for an independent storage array that can be extended or upgraded without having to reconfigure the hardware of the server attached to it. A disk shelf based SATA SAN seems ideal for this application. We envision needing to start with roughly 10 TB of storage to cover known archives. 12 x 1 TB SATA drives seems like an ideal compromise between price and capacity.

They will deploy this 2 services in 2 separated and reduntant centers outside of US because their archives will contain non-us repository as well. If you can help them then just follow this link and get in contact with them
